You can see most test results in the NHS App once a doctor has reviewed them. If your results show you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.
How long do results take?
- Blood tests: up to 10 working days.
- Urine tests: up to 5 working days.
- X-rays and scans: up to 4 weeks.
Some tests take longer. A doctor needs to review each result before it is released to you.
How to get your results
Once a doctor has reviewed your results, you can see them by:
- Using your NHS account through the NHS App or NHS website.
- Using our online system, SystmOnline. See our Online services page for information about how to get access.
Will you contact me about my results?
Yes, if you need to do anything. If a doctor wants you to have more tests, start treatment or book an appointment, we will contact you using your preferred contact method.
Results for someone else
To protect confidentiality, we can only give test results to the patient unless they have given permission for someone else to receive them, for example through proxy access.
What does “normal” or “no further action” mean?
It means a doctor has looked at the result and nothing more needs to be done right now.
